The second test of IMCI distance learning course using ICATT started in Morogoro, Tanzania. The course duration will be 2 months (18 September - 9 November). The course will consist of three tutor– participant encounters and two self-learning periods.
All encounters will take place at the National Distance Learning Centre at Eastern Zonal Health Resources Training Centre in Morogoro and Morogoro Regional Hospital. The 1st facilitator – participant encounter was conducted on 18 September.
A three day facilitator training (15 - 17 September) preceded the course. It was conducted by facilitators from Ifakara, TTCIH with the assistance of ICATT global tem member. Ifakara facilitators have been trained in facilitating IMCI courses using ICATT and have conducted the first ever IMCI course using ICATT. Eight facilitators (6 from Eastern Zonal Health Resources Training Centre in Morogoro and 2 from Arusha Zonal Health Resources Training Centre attended the training. All of them are experienced IMCI facilitators and have their own computer.
Twenty participants from Morogoro Health Municipality were enrolled into the course. Participants have an average 5.7 years of working experience (6 months – 25 years). Two of the participants have been previously trained in IMCI, 18 have not been trained. Three participants have their own computer, 14 have a computer at workplace, 3 will come to learn from the ICATT to the Distance learning centre. Two participants are regular computer users, 12 have some experience, 6 have never used a computer before.
